The University libraries support gender equality and are committed to promoting the overcoming of the gender gap through multiple activities and in synergy with the University Gender Equality Observatory and the Single Guarantee Committee for equal opportunities, the enhancement of well-being of those who work and against discrimination, establishing itself as a safeguard for equal opportunities.
Every year, the GdL Glam/AIB Campania participates in the international Art+Feminism and #WikiGap campaigns, aimed at bridging the gender gap in Wikipedia through collaborative writing marathons of female biographies.
The GdL's commitment was rewarded in 2019 by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, partner of Wikimedia Sweden in the annual #WikiGap campaign, which invited the members of the working group to the Ministry's offices for a thanksgiving ceremony as part of Wikimania 2019, held in Stockholm.
Particularly significant were the 2020 editions of #WikiGapSalerno and #WikiGapSuffragette, held completely remotely, but which saw the participation of around 30 contributors and the creation, expansion, translation of 60 entries in Wikipedia, 200 media uploads and 5 categories created in Commons, 3 texts re-read in Wikisource and hundreds of citations for #1lib1ref related to Italian partisans and suffragettes. The video "There was a great expectation..." was also created for Wikigap Suffragette, which traces the history of women's rights through the words of the protagonists of the political and social battles.
On the occasion of the Wikigap and Art and Feminism 2022 campaigns, the Library Center promoted the Dear Data day on 8 March 2022, which included the presentation of Donata Columbro's book, Ti spiego il data, an editathon in Wikidata dedicated to improvement of female items.
The commitment of Italian women in the years of the birth of our Republic is a theme dear to the CBA, as demonstrated by the organization of the seminar "Motherland 1948-2018: seventy years of the Italian Constitution" which inaugurated the exhibition "The Constituents in memory - stories, places, policies ", which tells, in a significant synthesis, the story of the twenty-one women who sat in Parliament for the first time.
Again in partnership with the OGEPO and as part of the public reading review "Libri Salvata" promoted by the Associazione Italiana Biblioteche (AIB) in memory of the Bücherverbrennungen, the book burning set in place by the Nazis on 10 May 1933, the Centro University librarian of the University of Salerno curated in May 2019 a bio-bibliographic exhibition and a reading dedicated to the figure of Fernanda Pivano entitled and "Signora Libertà, Signora Anarchia", chosen as an example of freedom of expression against censorship operated by the Nazis during the 1930s.
Also for the #1lib1ref campaign, which invites librarians from all over the world to add bibliographic references to entries that lack them in Wikipedia, the University librarians have chosen to add bibliographic notes and expand the bibliographies to many entries relating to female subjectivity by searching in the appropriate categories using appropriate tools. From 2016 to today, the CBA has been in the top positions for its commitment to the campaign.
The conference "Gender equity: new organizational and cultural structures in universities, research and information", held on 8 October 2021 as part of the Sustainable Development Festival promoted by Asvis, proposed positive actions to affirm centrality of gender equality in the academic and research world, taking advantage of the possibility offered by the pandemic to overcome the balances we were used to.
