Since the inauguration of its activities in its temporary headquarter of "Biblioteca Provinciale di Salerno", the Institute Magistero Pareggiato "Giovanni Cuomo" has owned a small book collection born thanks to the contributions by teachers, private citizens and, later, by the Ministry of Public Education.

In the following years, the enlargement of this collections is ensured by a clear policy of purchases and a constant flow of many valuable donations among which stands out for the high quality, the impressive quantity and variety of documents preserved, the fund donated by the descendants of Giovanni Cuomo , the Salerno politician for whom the Institute of Magistero Pareggiato was inaugurated.

In parallel with the impressive current purchasing policy, which has made it possible to attest the CBA as one of the main academic libraries of South Italy, the existence of donations over the years is significant, with a significant increase especially since the 2000s.

Among these, the private funds stand out for their peculiarities, which in the Athenaeum take the form of (Marcello Andria). Thus, Cultural Libraries are characterized by distinctive features - notes of possession, dedications, track of reading but also inserts, cards, business card, pieces of journals, invitations, etc. - that highlight the belonging to an authoritative representative of the community , usually linked to the Athenaeum through a formal relationship.

The characteristic of these funds and their impressive volume (almost 5000 bibliographic units) combined with the particular sensitivity of the Management, has led the CBA to model an operational practice aimed at at highlighting the specific value of these collections which, beyond permitting a good answer to the search needs of its users, gave a stronger identity to the library.

There was, therefore, a need to create a special working group, with the aim of coordinating and operating systematic reconnaissance procedures, aggregation of the CBA's assets, cataloguing, enhancement and protection of the funds themselves.

Based on the practice that has gone delineating in CBA, confronting other national and international realities and having as reference the Linee Guida for personal funds of Commissione Nazionale biblioteche, archivi e biblioteche d'autore dell'aIB, the workgroup has drawn up some Linee guida interne per il trattamento dei fondi speciali, published in the Atheneum libraries portal in the section "Norme e documenti".

Particular attention has been paid to the enhancement of these collections through multiple strategies which give adequate visibility and dissemination, both locally or internationally. The activities of valorization are achieved in the realization of three paths united: divulgation, communication and research

Firstly, for the divulgation, the collaboration with the Wikimedia projects was noticed in the order to return this heritage to the collectivity through the publication of the biographies of the owners and the description of the funds in Wikipedia, the dissemination of the most significant images in commons, the publication of linked open data in relation to the Special Funds in Wikidata, the creation of entry channels to the CBA discovery tool in every Wikimedia project.

The communication, on the other hand, takes place through the social profile of the CBA, whose editorial plan includes a column denominated #fondi speciali in which there is information in relation to the special CBA collection, and, for the funds in person, the hashtag #notedautore to spread the dedicatees, signs of possession, handwritten notes and the most significant ex-libris of the CBA’s private funds, accepting the perspective of storytelling.

For bibliographical and bibliotechnomic research and outreach activities , CBA engages in study activities on special funds and dissemination of research results through the organization and the participation in conferences, study days, seminars, also in the context of university courses and high training. Also fundamental is the drafting of scientific articles and essays and, finally, the periodic preparation of bio-bibliographic exhibition, for a continuous and fruitful dialogue with the scientific community of reference.

The Commissione nazionale biblioteche speciali, archivi e biblioteche d’autore dell’AIB (The AIB's National Commission for Special Libraries, Archives and Author Libraries) collaborates closely with the CBA through their own Wikimedia projects referents.
